Festive TorontoToronto is alive with festivals! If your extended stay in our corporate housing occurs during the spring or summer, you will have a nearly limitless choice of festivals to attend. Even in the depths of winter the city has a wonderful festival celebrating the beauty and fun of a northern winter season. Here is just a sampling of a few of Toronto's amazing festivals: Held in late January and early February, the Toronto WinterCity Festival celebrates Winter in all its icy glory. In addition to many warm indoor performances by musicians and entertainers, there are ice skating shows and a display of beautifully creative ice sculpture. Springtime brings the Hot Docs Documentary Film Festival, April 30-May 10, 2009. Each year the festival screens over 100 documentary films, making it the largest documentary film festival in North America. Salute Wine and Food Festival runs May 5-May 9, 2009 and will afford the visitor the opportunity to sample international wines from 50 wineries. In addition to the wine tastings and educational wine events, a delicious variety of foods will tempt the taste buds of any who are fortunate enough to be in Toronto during the run of this outstanding festival. The International Circus Festival, May 16-18, 2009, is must for the whole family. Rain or shine, outdoor staging areas host the best circus talent from around the world. Everything from hilarious clowns to graceful aerialists will delight you with their fun-loving antics and their skillful talents. The CONTACT Toronto Photography Festival is the largest of its kind in all of North America. Held in May, it presents the work of 500 international photographers in 175 sites throughout the city. Currently, 1,000,000 people flock to this festival each year. The Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival is truly unique. Its 21st festival will be held June 20-21, 2009 and will host 185 rowing teams consisting of more than 500 athletes from around the world. A celebration of Chinese food and culture is a highlight of this event. The Toronto Fringe Theatre Festival, July 1-12, 2009 is a must for the theatre-goer. With ten venues and 120 theatre companies from around the globe, the festival brings the latest in dramatic entertainment. The Toronto International Carnival-Caribana, July 15-August 3, 2009 is the largest Caribbean festival in North America. This 35 year old festival is packed with music, entertainment, a parade, and delicious food. You might just forget how far north you really are. |
